Bobby Lee and I have crossed paths many times. I'm proud to come from Fredrick Douglas' adopted town. Living in South Carolina now, I'm getting to enjoy the best of what the south has to offer humanity. Monument Avenue will never be the same. Lee was replaced with nothing, not something society deems of greater value. Still, the American story is not finished, and will not be written by the nihilists. And Lee lives on with myself and both my "yankee" children in very personal ways, from our friends and life in Richmond from the 1970's. Extraordinarily well written, my friend. I greatly enjoyed your essay.

Think you are missing the point of General Lee. By all accounts-Yes, he was an incredible leader. But so was Lennon, Stalin and Hitler. It’s the cause that’s no longer appropriate to celebrate. Not quite sure why it took so long TBH
